Sci fi has a great interview that talks carefully around the action of the movie (no real spoilers other than mentioning what mysteries it addresses).

If the movie does well they have a contract for two more. However, knowing that was all dependent on how this first one does at the box office, this movie was made as a stand alone movie that doesn't leave you hanging.
