Serenity seeing brisk sales
Joss Whedon's movie "Serenity" has already seen brisk sales in advance of tonight's opening. The local theater said it was seeing pre-sales at Star Wars levels. "Get there about an hour early to get a good seat," the ticket counter salesperson said.

If the movie does well there may be more, so I urge everyone who enjoys it to see it more than once and bring along friends. If you've never seen Firefly, the series that started it all, you can rent it or buy it to catch up. However, according to the Salon review, Whedon did an excellent job of translating it to the big screen in such a way that viewers who never saw Firefly are oriented to the characters and ongoing story.

If you don't see another sci fi movie all year, see Serenity!

The Chronicle gave it a great review, too. I'll have to check it out.

If we haven't converted you to the cult of Firefly already, we will soon!

Really, Fox so screwed up the reception of this series. They aired it out of order, throwing us into an action-adventure episode with no idea who these characters were or what they were doing. Then they kept pre-empting it with baseball. Finally they showed the critical first few episodes as they were about to cancel it--thereby hooking us at the last minute to a doomed series. It's cult status is owed almost entirely to those few geeks who did see the series hooking everyone with dvd showings, and the subsequent strong dvd sales sparked the movie. It's really a brilliant character driven drama in its series incarnation. I imagine the movie will end up being more action-adventure oriented by virtue of being a single stand alone episode.

If you like the movie you can borrow our dvds. :)
