Writers Need Wills
Yes, you, even if you're not famous or published yet. (People have become famous following their deaths. Who would you want that money to go to?) This can even be used for artists or other creative sorts.

Neil Gaiman has a great post explaining why with a link to a .pdf form that writer's can use to express their wishes for their intellectual property.

Fran, this is just what you're looking for!

Of course everyone needs a Will. It's the last kind thing you can do for your family.

Yup. I have the clause / wording he suggests in the will I drew up in early 2007. I need to go in and change some things - because wow have things changed in these three yeas!

I have a will because I didn't want my stepdad coming in here and being a complete and total control freak and fucking Preston out of all of my belongings, etc, etc, etc, in case something did happen to me - had I given Thomas a kidney. Because that's the kind of thing he does.

Kind of a "cover my ass against his bullshit" thing. I have a living will, too, for the same reason.
