Wherever you are
Lovin' this crip-solidarity post: Wherever You Are Is Where I Want To Be: Crip Solidarity.

I, too, struggle with performing an "able-bodied-friendly version of myself, rather than nurturing the harder to live disabled-self-loving version of who I ache, desire and need to be."

Took me a minute...
...and I guess it's because I am not part of this particular subculture/community (hope no offense is taken by either of those words; I am not sure how to express things properly in this context). When I first saw the title of this post, I thought you were referring to the gang "The Crips". How strange, I thought, that Tapati had joined a gang! I had to read the whole post to figure it out. Guess I am not well educated when it comes to modern slang. Now I know a new word, though I suspect it is like "nigger" which is only to be used by certain people? Thanks for the educating posts.

Re: Took me a minute...
Yeah it's one of those words only insiders use.

I often have trouble figuring out which terms people may be familiar with and which ones might need some explanation.

But we all have our own individual context and sometimes I encounter posts that make me think of a term out of my own experience. Then I have to adjust as I realize what the writer means.

I don't think any gangs would have me now. :) Though I have that cool labyris tattoo so maybe I can form my own: The Amazons.
