With thanks to Jessi: Language and 9/11

Today I've been watching the coverage of 9/11, something I haven't done much of in the past few years because it felt too raw. On that day I was in the hospital and Dave called to tell me what happened. I'd returned to the hospital with chest pain following my release after heart surgery. It turned out I had inflammation around the heart and fluid built up. In any event, I was sleeping because I'd been up half the night with pain. He called me at 9:25 a.m. PDT. The towers had already collapsed and the basics were known at that point. Everyone in the hospital was talking about it. Today was the first time I got to see it unfold as it would have if I'd been awake from the beginning.

In any event, after seeing MSNBC's coverage (which consisted of the Today Show's original broadcast on that morning) I found this link via my friend Jessi about how 9/11 has been used on both sides: http://www.tinyrevolution.com/mt/archives/000611.html

Scroll down just a little bit to the 2005 entry.

It's all in line with that bit the Daily Show did recently on language and the Bush Administration. Or for that matter, George Orwell and 1984.
