So after all the rumors
about Heath Ledger returning to a drug addictive lifestyle, the official report indicates that in his desperation to finally get some sleep, he took his prescription drugs all together in a lethal combination. Anxiety meds, sleep meds, and pain meds together can really suppress your breathing center. A lot of people don't understand that drugs are not safe just because they are prescribed--that when combined they can have effects you didn't intend.

But then, after a long period of insomnia, who is thinking clearly?

Re: And a word with the good doctor....
Yeah, I was thinking about that. No such information was given in the initial CNN article about the final toxicology results. I suspect that one of the problems with film stars is that they move around from film location to film location, and they probably end up seeing more than one doctor on more than one continent. He was working in London just before he died. Now everyone should be cool and carry around a list of their other meds like I do ;) but he was young and thought he was immortal like most guys in their twenties and probably didn't. So I doubt there was anyone who could tell him how dangerous it was to take any of those meds together, much less all of them.

For those who say it was suicide, I'd say no note plus he didn't take much of any one drug, even though he had more in the bottles.

Just a tragic accident. I bet he took one thing, couldn't get to sleep, then took another and another, getting groggier as time passed and less and less able to think about the consequences. Poor guy just wanted to sleep...I know well the desperation of insomnia.

Maybe this case will help docs get the word out about these drugs and how careful one must be.
