Disappearing Fast
Our freedom of choice is rapidly disappearing even in advance of court decisions as states rush to change their abortion laws in order to get a case before the newly conservative court. Salon's broadsheet covers a case where a poor woman in Virginia, struggling to raise two children already, became depressed about her lack of abortion options and shot herself in an effort to self induce abortion. Her desperate act will bring a jail sentence rather than the mental health treatment and freedom of choice she really needs.

Interesting. It sounds like the children will be the ones to suffer most. Is the possible 10 yrs for aborting during the 3rd trimester? Have any idea how the criminal charge works?

It sounded like ANY self induced abortion carried that penalty, not just late term ones. Or that's my reading of the sentence:

"If convicted she could face up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, the maximum sentence for self-inducing abortion in Virginia."
