I was referred (thanks Summer!) to a page listing the 20 Healthiest Foods for Under $1.00.

Also, if you are at all interested in someday traveling the country with an RV or tent, check out her article on Modern Day Nomads. Here's the story of how it all came about.

Of course nomad living just gives me homeless-with-kids flashbacks, but I've known people who were quite happy to live that way. I think it works much better for those without dependents, though I clearly got a sense at Leo Carrillo that there were still people with kids making use of the campgrounds out of homelessness rather than for fun.

I had a dream the other night that I was being interviewed by Ba'al (a character from Stargate) for a job over the phone. I got the usual questions and then he asked me why I was interested in that particular job.

I launched into a long winded explanation of how because I've read sci fi all my life I have always felt planet-bound and yearned to travel to other planets. His job would allow me to do that.

Of course the character Ba'al would not be interviewing for a job but rather pressing me into slavery. But that's beside the point.

I had been thinking recently how odd it is that I have little desire to travel to other parts of Earth but I'd love to visit Mars. If it were possible to travel the galaxy via stargate, I'd go in a second.

Maybe I've already spent lifetimes traveling Earth and feel like it's time to see other things, I don't know.

But for this weekend I will settle for going to Reno.

His most amusing observation about Chicago:

"They call the restrooms toilets!" upon observing the signs in the airport.

We hope to add Hawaii to his list later this year.

Ok, this was a lot of fun to figure out, since I did some traveling in my younger days by car and train. I had to look at some maps to figure out the routes I took and therefore the states I visited. I remember the four corners site where one can literally stand on four states at the same time. That was really cool. I grew up in a tri-state area--Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.

Here's my map of visited states, in red:

We'd like to add some more exploration of the Southwest states (other than standing on the four corners) and also the Northeast states, in addition to visiting Chicago again and going to Hawaii together sometime. I'd also like to visit Canada, especially Victoria.

Happy traveling!
