We got pictures of the wrecked car today
Sobering...

RIP Dave's Geo Prizm. You were a good car. You took the hit so my husband survived.

Modern cars--they crumple so you don't have to. :)

I am so happy he walked away from that. Sore, very sore, but alive and mostly well.

It is amazing to me and I understand why the people who stopped to help and other first responders kept saying he should play the lottery, he was so lucky.

Dave himself is not entirely sure. He was moving into the fast lane, felt he was headed too close to the center divider, and over-corrected, sending the car over the right lane and into the embankment, where it flipped. What he thinks happen is either the right front tire blew at the point he was moving away from the divider or his bald tires slid or some combination of both, since he didn't feel that he wrenched the wheel that sharply. Once in motion it all happened so fast that it's a blur in his mind (also given the traumatic nature of it I think his brain couldn't quite register it all). Fortunately there were no cars in that lane just then.

The right front tire was flat when he went to take the pics. He didn't have a chance to see or take note of it as he was crawling out or being seen to & loaded on the ambulance.

He is now frustrated that he didn't borrow money to replace at least the front tires since we couldn't afford to get new tires. My perspective from when I was in poverty is to buy at least decent used tires for the front. He is used to thinking in terms of replacing all tires at the same time.

I was going to ask if he fell asleep at the wheel, but the bald tires blowing sounds like just the thing to cause this sort of accident.

I'm with you on the tires. I usually only buy two at a time, because I cannot afford 4 tires at once.

That was quite a ride for him! Again, glad he's OK!

It's all a confusing blur in his mind. I think too much is happening for a shocked brain to register it all.

He's feeling much better, just a bit of soreness left and the scrape is healing.

Wow. Scary. I'm glad he's okay!

It was scary enough to hear about second hand but seeing the pictures made it much more real for me. It's been a lot to take in and I am so grateful he wasn't seriously injured.

Eep. Scrolled back through your entries and saw he went straight back to work - how's he holding up?

He's getting better all the time. He moved like an old person those first few days; his lower back really hurt and his left shoulder from the seat belt. Still a little sore but moving more normally and is doing more so I can tell he really does feel better.
