Transplant tragedy
No plane crash is good news, but this one is especially tragic: medical team and donated organs lost in crash.

I am sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but if more people were willing to donate their organs (or their deceased family members' organs), we wouldn't have people waiting for them in critical condition or dying while on the transplant list.

My prayers are with those who lost their lives in this errand of mercy.

Amen to that. I've gone overboard asking people to PLEASE sign the organ donor form on the back of their driver's license. I keep "Be An Angel" stickers, rulers, brochures on me that I pass out to people when I meet them.

Unless we come up with some solution, Thomas has by all rights lost my kidney now. Jane said the other day that he's convinced he's going to die now before he can get a transplant. :headdesk:

If it is not possible due to insurance for YOU to donate, Mari, why not have a drive to find another living donor locally? Someone in our town did this via the internet, got covered by local news stations, and lots of people got tested and they found a donor. It is touching that strangers will do this and I was inspired to look into it but of course they wouldn't consider me because of heart disease, even though my kidneys are healthy.

My other thought is, even though the insurer is telling you they won't cover the effects of donation--does the hospital have to know that? All they seem to want is proof of insurance, they aren't likely to read through your whole policy. Then others can pay whatever the insurance doesn't, quietly, without anyone knowing.

I thought about that, but all that's up to Jane - she's the one with medical power of attorney over Thomas. While she'll certainly listen to suggestions, it's all really out of my hands.
